Big news for our Places Enterprise API: We’ve just launched a new Autocomplete endpoint that returns both global places and addresses, making it easier than ever to get your users where they want to go. Designed to return live search results as a user begins to type, it can autofill places, addresses, cities and neighborhoods. Give it a try with our API Explorer tool.
The Autocomplete endpoint is yet another enhancement we’ve made to our industry-leading Places Enterprise API, which was recently recognized as the “Best in Enterprise APIs” by API World.
Why the Autocomplete endpoint is great news for developers and brands
This new feature will help developers and brands build better app and web experiences. It’s perfect for online shopping, delivery services, ride-sharing, discovering neighborhood places, or any kind of mapping and navigation functions.
The Autocomplete with addresses function is powered by the most up-to-date and complete address information available, pulled from over 250 countries and territories. As a user begins to type in an address, suggestions to autocomplete that address are provided instantly – even if there are minor spelling errors, abbreviations, missing words or other mistakes.
Diverse data sources that make for a more powerful POI database
The Enterprise Places API offers real-time access to Foursquare’s global database of over 100 million global points of interest (POI), uniquely powerful because of our diverse data sources. Indeed, our POI database is compiled from user-generated content – including billions of explicit check-ins from our consumer-facing apps (FSQ Rewards, Swarm, and City Guide). As a result, our Places products include rich information like photos, tips, and reviews that we then enrich with authoritative third-party data and web crawls – all meticulously maintained for daily releases.
Build with the leading independent data provider
This latest enhancement to our Places Enterprise API offers those wanting to say goodbye to our competitors’ APIs even more reason to choose to build with the leading independent data provider (aka Foursquare). Large companies like Samsung and Uber integrate FSQ/Places into their software and services alongside thousands of individual developers and start-ups that depend on our API.
Don’t believe us? Here’s how we stack up against Google:
Details | FSQ/Places | |
---|---|---|
Data attributes available | 60+ | 23 |
Categories & Subcategories in Category Taxonomy | 1100+ | 96 |
Geocodes | Building-level geocode, Drop-off geocode, Entrance geocode | Building-level geocode |
And last but certainly not least, the Places Enterprise API pricing structure ranges from 25% to 75% LESS than the cost of Google’s API.
More enhancements are underway for the Places Enterprise API. Stay tuned for more news this fall!
