Foursquare is honored to be included as one of Fast Company’s 2017 Top 10 Most Innovative Companies in Data Science, for “unlocking a treasure trove of geolocation data.” The award, announced earlier this week by Fast Company, is a testament to our leadership in the location intelligence space.
In the past, Foursquare was recognized in the social media category (2014) and in the local and mobile categories (2010–2013). This year we return to the list positioned alongside leaders in analytics and insights, which reflects our growing suite of industry-leading advertising and enterprise products that leverage data-driven location intelligence.
When we were founded in 2009, our focus was on making cities easier to use. This mission remains a cornerstone of Foursquare, as we help relentless adventurers find their next discovery using Foursquare City Guide, and allow people to keep track of where they’ve been on Foursquare Swarm, the check-in app. And yet, as our Fast Company record shows, the scope of our ambition continues to expand. In the past two years, we launched business solutions such as Pinpoint by Foursquare, Place Insights by Foursquare and Attribution by Foursquare, which allow brands to understand and connect to targeted audiences as well as measure foot traffic and advertising success. We work with over ⅓ of the Fortune 500 and over half of the top 100 brand advertisers in the US. Our Places API powers location data for Apple, Uber, Snapchat, Airbnb, Twitter, Microsoft, Samsung and 100,000 other developers. Last year, revenue was up nearly 75%.
Just last week, we used our singular understanding of foot traffic to reveal how Macy’s and Kmart store closures impacted American retailers. And yes, as Fast Company correctly noted in Most Innovative Companies, we accurately predicted Chipotle revenue last year more precisely than Wall Street.
Thanks again for the award, FC. We’re thrilled to be back.
